How to Play Outrivia: Read the Scores and Keep Playing

Choose a run, follow real scored answers and understand the difference between points and followers before your next game.

Outrivia gives you 30 seconds to type a valid answer. Less obvious answers earn more points. Start with the Daily for a shared ten-question run, or Unlimited if you want to keep playing after Krillion.

Daily routine or another round?
ModeChoose it when…
Daily · 10 promptsYou want the dated challenge and a Daily streak. The published rules say an unfinished Daily can resume in the same browser.
Unlimited · 10You want one more complete run. This is the format used in the example below.
Unlimited · 20You want a longer session. The multiplier pattern starts again at question 11.
Unlimited · EndlessYou want to stop on your own terms. Use the close control to end and see your result.

The Unlimited selector, October 18, 2026. These options change the number of prompts, not the guesses allowed at one hidden word.

Finish before leaving Unlimited. Its rules say runs cannot resume later and do not affect the Daily streak. If you only have a few minutes, choose 10.

Your first answer, including a retry

  1. Read the requested category.

Keep one answer you know fits, then consider a less obvious candidate. Do not spend the entire clock searching for the perfect one.

  2. Type and submit while time remains.

“Not on our list — try another” leaves room to correct the input. In a bridge question, replacing a rejected entry with Golden Gate Bridge earned 10 points before time expired.

  3. Read the reveal, then continue.

Notice the band and multiplier. A timeout earns zero; a recognized common answer still earns points. Tap to skip the reveal when you are ready for the next prompt.

Retry before acceptance, not after it.

A rejected entry leaves the clock running. Try a clear alternative while there is time; the first accepted answer commits the round. The rules’ typo example reads Skopie as Skopje, but Rom does not become Rome: answers shorter than five characters need exact spelling.

Compare three choices for the same prompt

For “Name a capital city in Europe”, the worked example uses question 4’s ×2 multiplier. Compare candidates within that prompt before applying the multiplier.

Outrivia teaching result: Skopje is an Outlier on a ×2 question, earns 200 points and brings 8 followers; Most said is marked estimated.
A teaching card for question 4: 100 × 2 = 200 points; 200 ÷ 25 = 8 followers. This is not today’s Daily result.
Same question, same weight, different answer band
CandidatePoints at ×2Followers
Paris · Crowd10 × 2 = 200
Bern · Uncommon50 × 2 = 1004
Skopje · Outlier100 × 2 = 2008

Keep a valid fallback. If you cannot recall another capital, Paris still scores. Zero followers does not mean a wrong answer: 20 points is below the 25-point threshold. A timeout scores zero. Afterward, use the review to learn another valid candidate rather than judging the choice by the crowd animation.

Mérida, My Way and Zugzwang: read the difference

Recorded Unlimited run · October 18, 2026 · not that date’s Daily answer sheet

Two consecutive questions had the same ×2 multiplier. Mérida, for a city in Mexico, earned 150 points. My Way, for a Frank Sinatra song, earned 20. Both were accepted; their bands made the difference.

Outrivia review: question 3, Mérida, Standout, plus 150; question 4, My Way, Crowd, plus 20. Both show a ×2 multiplier.
The review preserves the prompt, accepted answer, band and awarded points. “Most said” is marked “est.” in the game.

My Way · Sinatra songCrowd: 10 × 2 = 200
Zugzwang · chess termStandout: 75 × 3 = 2259

Review the decision, not the word’s appearance. Mérida and Zugzwang shared a band but earned different points because they appeared at different stages. A familiar short song title still fitted its prompt. None of these results guarantees a future grade for another question.

Round points = band points × multiplier

  1. Questions 1–2×1
  2. Questions 3–5×2
  3. Questions 6–8×3
  4. Questions 9–10×4

The crowd is part of the scoring display. Outrivia assigns answer commonness in advance; “Most said (est.)” is not a live poll of today’s guesses. The rules award one follower per 25 round points, rounded down for each answer. That is why My Way’s 20 points pulled nobody.

Use the result to choose what to practise

This ten-question run finished with 745 points, 29 followers and zero Outliers. The two timeouts give us specific misses to review alongside the accepted answers.

  • Fix the misses first. Was it a category you did not know, or a familiar answer you delayed typing? Those need different practice.
  • Compare alternatives within that prompt. The review offers rare suggestions; check why each fits before memorizing a name.
  • Start another run when ready. Play again returns to the length selector, ready for another practice session.

Frequently asked questions

Is Outrivia free to play?

The Daily and Unlimited are free browser games without a required account, as checked October 18, 2026. Open outrivia.com for the Daily or its Unlimited page for another run.

Does a long answer score more in Outrivia?

Length is not the scoring rule. An accepted answer receives a preset band for its question, then the round multiplier applies. In the recorded run, the long Mark Twain title earned 100 points at ×4, while the single word Zugzwang earned 225 at ×3.
