How to Use Krillion Hints Without Spoiling the Dive

The Hints page is designed for a specific compromise: learn something about the latest saved prompt without opening its complete answer roster. The safest way to use it is to stop as soon as you have enough information.

Hint sequence: visible DATA counts, reviewed L1/L2 scope and direction when available, L3 character clues, then L4 full dated sheet.
A guide to the actual reveal levels; reviewed notes can be absent. Stop when you have enough help.

First, check the saved date

The heading and byline name the latest sheet stored on this site. If its saved reset timestamp has passed, a warning explains that a newer official dive may already be live. That distinction matters: the page does not promise that hints appear within a fixed number of minutes after the game resets.

What is visible before you reveal anything

Every saved prompt starts with two factual summaries:

  • the number of recorded answer entries; and
  • the count stored in each displayed rarity tier.

Those counts come from the dated roster. They do not measure how often players submitted an answer. A 790-entry roster means the saved answer set is large; it does not mean 790 people played.

The progressive controls

L1 — Understand the question

When an editor has reviewed the prompt, L1 explains the scope: what the wording includes, excludes or makes ambiguous. This note is not automatically generated for every daily prompt. If no reviewed note exists, the page says so instead of inventing one.

L2 — Get a thinking direction

For a reviewed prompt, L2 suggests a way to search your memory without naming a saved answer. It is editorial guidance, not an official acceptance rule.

L3 — Reveal a character clue

L3 shows the first Unicode letter or digit and the letter/digit count of one deterministic recorded example from each available tier. Spaces and punctuation are excluded from the count. This can confirm the shape of an idea, but it can also narrow the answer substantially, so open it only when you want that level of help.

L4 — Open the full dated sheet

L4 links to the complete saved answer sheet for that prompt. The answer groups remain collapsible, letting you inspect one tier without expanding all of them.

A worked character clue: Lettish

The September 28 language-ending-in-ish prompt stores Lettish as its only 100-point entry. Its top-tier character clue is L · 7: the first letter followed by seven letters. This example intentionally reveals a past answer so you can understand the control before using it on an unfamiliar prompt.

The count ignores spaces and punctuation, and includes letters and digits. It describes one selected recorded example per tier, not every answer in that tier. A different valid word with the same first letter and length is not thereby confirmed, and an answer of another length is not thereby rejected.

If the hint you need is unavailable

  • No reviewed L1/L2: use the visible roster facts or choose L3. The absence of a note does not mean the prompt has no answer.
  • A stale saved date: open the official daily game to confirm the current dive; do not apply yesterday’s clue to today’s wording.
  • You remember a word but need its old result: use Answer Lookup and compare the matching prompt and date. That is a different task from requesting a small hint.
  • You opened more than you intended: closing the disclosure hides it again, but cannot make the answer unknown. On the next prompt, stop at the smallest useful level.

Avoid a timing mistake

The official game gives 25 seconds per prompt. Opening another page during a live round uses some of that time. If you want a no-timer exercise, use Practice mode with an eligible past dive, then review the dated roster afterward.

Data and editorial boundaries

Roster counts and L3 character clues are derived from the saved sheet. L1 and L2 are manually reviewed notes and may be unavailable for a new prompt. The official live game remains the source for the currently playable dive; this site is an unofficial archive and can publish later.
